I’ve been watching quite a bit of TV lately so I thought I’d share some of my favourite shows here. Most of the TV shows I’ll be listing have multiple seasons but all are currently airing their most recent season. If you’ve been watching any of the TV shows that made it onto my list, feel free to let me know in the comments. I’d love to hear what you think of them!
Favourite TV Shows 2017
The Good Doctor
The Good Doctor (Medical Drama)- This show centers around a young doctor with Autism and Savant syndrome. Autism and Savant Sydrome are two separate conditions. Autism is a neuro-developmental disorder that is often characterized by an impairment in communication (verbal, non-verbal and social) as well as, a presence of repetitive/restrictive behaviors. Savant syndrome is where an individual has profound capabilities in a particular area with deficits in other areas of brain processing. For example, an individual with Savant syndrome may have remarkable memory but will have deficits in other areas. Although both disorders can be seen together (ie. The Good Doctor – Dr. Shawn Murphy), they can also be present separately. Having worked with children with Autism, I immediately felt drawn to this show. The show reduces stigmas and I believe starts a conversation among families with and without children with ASD. The cast and writers are fantastic and every episode so far has been a tear-jerker (more like waterfalls for me lol). Oh yeah and it’s a new show – so this is it’s first season and I have a feeling it will be around for a while! Highly recommend!
Stranger Things (Science Fiction)- This show is probably the most talked about TV show right now on Netflix (and with good reason). The show follows the disappearance of a young boy in a small town in Indiana but the events leading up to his disappearance and the introduction of a particular character, makes this disappearance far more intense. They are currently on their second season so if you haven’t started the show yet then now is the time!
Mr. Robot (Psychological Thriller)- Mr. Robot is currently on their third season and is one of the best TV shows I’ve ever watched. The series follows Elliot (played by Rami Malek), a cyber-security engineer and hacker. What’s interesting about him is that his character also has depression and some sort of dissociative disorder which makes it hard for the viewer to tell apart what’s real and what’s in his mind. It’s incredibly difficult for me to describe the show without spoiling it so I’ll share the first season trailer here instead.
Other shows I’ve been keeping up with are Survivor and Bachelor Canada. I’ve never mentioned this on the blog but I’m a huge Survivor fan. It’s currently on their 35th season! To sum up the show, a group of strangers are placed on a remote island together where they must ‘outwit, outplay and outlast’ to become the sole Survivor (winner). Some of my favourite seasons have been, “Heroes Vs. Villains”, “Blood Vs. Water” and “Fans Vs. Favourites”. Some of my all-time favourite players are, ‘Boston Rob’, Ozzie, Cochran, Caleb, ‘Queen Sandra’, Ty, Tina, Cirie and Russell! I’m also a fan of the bachelor series! I know most of the show is probably scripted but I can’t help but be optimistic that love will be found.
