Testing Beauty Samples || Bare Minerals and YSL + Lip Swatches!

Bare Minerals

I think we can all agree that free samples are pretty awesome, especially beauty samples but sometimes, I just forget to test them out. Mostly because I store them out of sight (🙈) but also, because I get lazy and forget. However, today is a new day and I believe it’s finally time to try out some of the free beauty samples I’ve received. I’ll be testing out Bare Minerals and YSL so, if you’re interested in any of these brands, check out the rest of this post!

Sephora Samples Review + Swatches

First up, Bare Minerals Gen Nude Lipsticks. Right off the bat, I loved all of the colours included in this sample. Beige-Rose tones are my absolute favourite so, I knew I would love these. However, I wouldn’t describe these as lipsticks. I’d almost say that they similar to a tinted lip balm, actually, very similar to my Burt’s Bees tinted lip balm (swatched below). Although I really love the Bare Minerals lipsticks (>$20), the Burt’s Bees tinted lip balms are half the price (<$10) so, I wouldn’t purchase unless there is a colour I absolutely adore.

Next up, Bare Minerals Complexion Rescue Tinted Hydrating Gel Cream. I received two shades (Natural and Vanilla) of this sample and was lucky to find that the Vanilla shade worked quite well with my skin tone. It’s hydrating and doesn’t cling to any of my dry areas which is a big deal for me! If you have oilier skin, a setting powder is a must. It’s also a very sheer formula so if you prefer medium/full coverage then you might not like this 🙁

Now time for the YSL Touche Eclat Strobing Light Pen. This is a product I’ve seen in quite a few blog posts and YouTube Videos but never thought it could possibly be worth the price. At $50 CAD, I really expect the very most of this product and unfortunately, it didn’t deliver. I’m not a fan of sparkly highlights and this was pure sparkles :(. I could imagine it looking pretty over the shoulders (for a special occasion) but why pay $50 for that when you can buy a sparkly cream for less than $10?
